I have had a small business for some time now, but I realized that I had come to a point where I needed to expand my base. A presence on the Internet is an important part of small business today, so I decided it was high time I began researching the fine art of making a website. I started out knowing two things: First I didn’t have much money to invest in this venture; and second, I didn’t know the first thing about making a website on my own.

I decided I needed to do some research first, so I went online to gain all the knowledge I could about this process. I quickly found more than enough information about making a website, whether I decided to tackle the project myself or hire someone else to do it. I learned that there were plenty of options in this process, and I would be able to find success if I did my homework beforehand.

The first option was to hire a trained professional to do the job, and this was tempting indeed with my limited experience in the technical arena. I found that some experts in this field will charge a pretty reasonable fee for making a website, considering how much they could offer to build a really cool, attention-getting site. However, even the lowest fees were a bit steep for my budget at the time, so I decided to go it alone for the time being.

If need be, I could always hire someone to touch up my efforts later, as I’m sure their fees for that would be cheaper than making a website from scratch.

The online resources I found offered plenty of good step-by-step information for making a website, from choosing your domain name and designing your actual pages, to promoting your presence using the right content to draw prospective clients in.

Some of these were aptly referred to as tutorials, because they walked you through the entire process with language that was easy for even the least techno-savvy to understand. Yep, that’s me!

Once I got my site up and running, I found additional information on making a website that allowed me to spruce up my pages with lots of fun graphics, including my logo, buttons to view other pages, and pictures to make the entire package as pleasing to the eye as possible. I have to admit that I found the entire process really fun, and not hard to do at all.

However, I am looking forward to bringing an expert in to help me with the finer points of making a website that will give my pages that final, professional touch that will certainly allow me to put my best cyber-foot forward. Look out Internet, here I come!

The most important thing for a business person is to get people or feet or traffic through his doors, website, etc. To achieve that he need leads and I have been using two websites to do just that.

They are a tremendous source of free leads, yes, free leads( no strings attached) for my business and I have been using it for a while now with a fair amount of success.

Today, I’m going to share with you one of the 2 traffic generation systems that I use to get targeted traffic to my website. This one is called LeadsLeap.com and it is truly wonderfull and working.

If you have heard about this service and you have not registered your free account, I suggest that you do it now at

http://www.leadsleap.com?referid=josephcanhelp

LeadsLeap is an ingenious system that combines the power of contextual advertising and network lead generation.

In this system, you are allowed to post ads to 10 levels of network you have built.

Unlike traditional network lead generation methods, LeadsLeap only allows members to post their ads in the form of contextual ad.

This means your leads do not receive obtrusive ads from their uplines, which is a good thing because no one likes to receive junk ads.

Moreover, LeadsLeap sends very informative and useful newsletters to their members. I’ve saved some of the newsletters for future reference. I’m sure you will benefit from the newsletter too.

This is a free service. Register your account now at

If you like this lead generating system(and I am sure you wil), and you are interested in the other one i used as wel, then send me an email at joseph@josephcanhelp.co.za and I will send you the link to the website.

Recently I’m getting more friends and relatives asking me how to start an online business. It’s not rocket science, but it’s not easy maths too.

Starting an online business is pretty much the same as starting a brick and mortar business, except that the cost is much lower and so is the risk.

When I say it’s pretty much the same as a brick and mortar business, I also mean that you need to be entrepreneurial, to be able to ‘smell’ the needs in a market and to have a vision. Are entrepreneurs born or breed? I don’t know. What I believe is, if you think you are, you are.

So, if you are entrepreneurial and want to learn how to start an online business, read on……

Step 1: Never reinvent the wheel

Believe me. Almost all the smart and innovative ideas you can think of are already done by someone else online, in one way or another. If you think you’ve a unique online business idea, it just means that you’ve not done enough research.

So, if you have any online business idea, the first thing you need to do is head over to Google and type in some keywords related to your business idea. Thoroughly check out all the top websites that provide similar product or service. This means you may have to try out their products/services and find out their pros and cons.

Next, you have to evaluate those pros and cons and come out with a BETTER idea.

Remember, the job of an entrepreneur is not to invent things. His job is to seek proven business ideas, improve on those ideas and get a piece of the pie out of the market, preferably a bigger piece.

Step 2: Think of the marketing system

Most newbie entrepreneurs have one problem. They spend too much time trying to perfect their products.

Having a good product is important. But what’s more important is the marketing system.

Without a good marketing system, no matter how good your product is, it’s going to be hard for your online business to grow.

Regardless of what you sell, your marketing system should answer 3 important questions:

- How can the system attract and capture a list of potential users and/or customers?
- How can you make the system viral, such that users will refer more users?
- How to convert prospects into customers?

For example, recently I developed a great online tool (I think) that can help me to manage all my stocks (I’m talking about the stock market). I believe if I roll this service out to the market, someone will be willing to pay for it. But before I even think of developing the tool for the multiple users, I first have to think of the 3 questions above.

Here’s my thinking process: Read the rest of this entry »
